Day 7- Cruise from Korcula to Hvar, cycle Sucaraj to Pokrivenik, cruise to Makarska.

I awoke to a glorious sunny, cool morning and had early coffee on the deck!

The boat departed Korcula at 6am, and we had breakfast at 8am before docking briefly in Sucaraj to unload the bikes for a 20 mile ride.

The village was pretty, but the mountains behind it were the highlight. And of course, our handsome deck hand Toni 😁

I cycled with the group for 3 hours which meant no stopping for photo ops... well, just one.

Not my ideal way to ride, but... when it's not too steep, I tag along, and we all had to arrive at the end town together today. We finished our ride in charming little Pokrivenik where the boat had sailed ahead and was waiting for us. A welcome sight when coming down the hill..

A few shots from the quaint stop... just a small hotel, romantic seaside restaurant and pier.

Bikes were loaded, and then we departed and had lunch onboard. The tour includes daily breakfast and either a 3 course lunch OR dinner, allowing for some time to dine locally. Today, lunch was a cabbage salad, a chicken, chick pea and corn salad, tender beef goulash with carrots and gnocchi, and a rich red currant panna cotta!

We cruised to the pretty town of Makarska on the mainland where we spent the night.

A brief history... Makarska is one of the oldest towns of the eastern Croatian Adriatic. Archaeological finds have shown human settlement as far back as 6000 BC. The settlement on the small peninsula of Sveti Petar (St. Peter) was founded around 2500 BC and evolved into the Phoenician colony of Mukron around 1200 BC. You'd never know it when approaching by sea. The hillsides are covered with modern condos and apartments. The small historic section is a bit hidden but still lovely. Today, Makarska is known for its lively nightlife,  palm lined waterfront promenade, sandy beaches and idyllic setting on the Adriatic sea with the stunning Biokovo mountain range as a backdrop.

I skipped the optional Captain's dinner and explored in town instead. I bought a pretty blue opal ring for about the price of dinner, and it will last longer! 😁

The boat takes off for the island of Solta at 5AM, so that's a wrap for today!
